The history of saloia region dates back to the time of kings, when Dom Afonso Henriques, with the help of the Crusaders, took the city of Lisbon.
The Moors, having no other option, moved to the surroundings of Lisbon, to cultivate the land as a way of livelihood.
The Moors started to make the salah, an expression which that, over time, became saloio.
Some of the legacies of that time still exist, such as fairs that take place in Malveira, being quite appreciated, maintaining its authenticity.
Day 1: Welcome at Lisbon airport. We will be waiting for you to assist in collecting the rental car and providing all necessary assistance for the trip to Mafra.
Day 2: Day dedicated to the town of Mafra. Built in the century XVIII, the Mafra National Palace is the most significant monument of the Baroque in Portugal. Its library has a collection of over 40,000 books, with leather bindings etched in gold. Stroll calmly through the long corridors of the Mafra National Palace and indulge yourself with the inheritance deposited in one of the most visited palaces in Portugal. Continue your discovery of the town and taste the typical cuisine of the region. Do not forget to taste the famous Mafra bread! It is time to choose a souvenir for your family. Visit the Typical Village of José Franco, an artist known for his works in clay. In the late afternoon, admire the sunset on the Serra do Socorro, a wonderful place, where once occured of one of the most important battles in Portugal. End the day with a typical Portuguese diner, served with a good wine.
Day 3: Day dedicated to the perfect combination between the blue sea and the green of the countryside. Start the day at the National Hunting Reserve of Mafra, created in the reign of D. João V, as a leisure park for the King and his court. It has 819 hectares, inhabited by deer, wild boar and many species of wildlife. If you like animals, at the Center for Iberian Wolf Recovery will find a suitable environment for wolves that can not live in freedom and, perhaps, sponsor one or more wolves, contributing to their feeding and conservation. Go to Ericeira and taste one of the typical sweets: hedgehogs. Ericeira, considered as the 1st Surfing Reserve in Europe and 2nd in the world, is the ideal place for a surf lesson. Stroll the streets of the village, enjoy the sun and confirm why they say in Ericeira “the sea is bluer.” End the day with a delicious seafood dinner, in a restaurant near the sea.
Day 4: Take this day of to rest and interact with nature. Around the region of Mafra, there are many walking trails and historic routes you can do while enjoy the good weather, so characteristic of Portugal. The route of the mills, the route of the enxaras or the route of the Penedo do Lexim are some examples.
Day 5: Day dedicated to the town of Sintra and its many charms. The list of places to visit is almost endless, but can not fail to visit the Moorish Castle, Pena Palace, the Capuchin Convent and exotic gardens of Monserrate. With the customized itinerary will have several suggestions that allow Sintra discover at your own pace and according to your personal taste.
Day 6 and 7: Days dedicated to the city of Lisbon. Rich in history, monuments and museums, we suggest you start by the riverside area, next to the River Tagus, where the ships once departed. Known by its light, that has inspired so many artists and poets, allow yourself to immerse in all the beauty of the city. There is always plenty to do in the birthplace of Fado, the portuguese musical genre considered as World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Day 8: Check out at the hotel and departure to the airport of Lisbon.
