As wrote the poet Afonso Lopes Vieira, “Sintra is one of the finest and rarest places that Nature’s prodigious invention managed to create.”
Declared by UNESCO, in 1995, as a world heritage in the category of cultural landscape, is a place of rare beauty with many attractions to discover.
The origins of Sintra are lost in time, where its name derives from the word Cynthia, the moon symbol in Celtic mythology.
Later, the Romans called it Mons Lunae or Mount of Moon, because of the sacrifices in his honor.
