Salt is one of the pillars of the famous Mediterranean cuisine.
Along with olive oil and garlic, salt plays a key role in enhancing the taste of food. Its crystalline whiteness – sign of purity – has always fascinated man.
It’s like a kind of gold, in which you need to go through a set of rituals to be obtained.
This is a package holiday that runs through several regions of Portugal, where even today, there are salt flats.
An old story, that left us as a legacy a unique culture, and a labeled scenary, by the brightness of white salt.
Day 1: Welcome at Lisbon airport. We will be waiting for you to assist in collecting the rental car and providing all necessary assistance for the trip to Obidos, a medieval village, where time seems to have stopped.
Day 2: In the morning, start your discovery of the salt route with a trip to Rio Maior. It is an important agricultural region with several pines, eucalyptus and typical Ribatejo plains. It is the heart of the Natural Park of Serra de Aire e Candeeiros. You will find a lush nature and a heritage of great importance. Visit the various monuments of the city and take a stroll through the National Park. Do not forget the Salinas de Rio Maior. Thanks to a mine of salt, the water rises to the surface with seven times more salt than the seawater. It is a unique and picturesque location with ancestral traditions. Try some of the dishes of the local cuisine. Now, towards Aveiro, stroll through downtown and taste the famous ovos-moles, a traditional sweet, made with eggs and sugar.
Day 3: Toward the beaches, visit the channel of S. Roque, where even today, are visible signs of the times in which the salt industry was one of the major activities in the region. Visit some salt storage barns, now converted into restaurants and bars, as well as the Eco-museum of the salt. In the afternoon, visit the region of Figueira da Foz where, on the island of Murraceira, will visit the salt flats that are on the river Mondego.
